I am so lost from so much depression and mixed emotions. Some nights were unbearable. I must thank my higher power, who helped me through these tough battles. It genuinely saddened my heart to mention that two of my close friends lost the battle and took their lives. They chose to die rather than to be themselves. I refused to lose myself trying to be something or someone else. Within us lies the answers to life’s most significant questions. So, we must stay true to ourselves. Out of 365 days, at least 150 of those days, I am a mental or emotional wreck, but I’ve learned to accept and grow from it. I also learned how to express better how I feel to people who are willing to take the time to listen. I felt so isolated from society until I started voicing how I felt. I then learned that so many others felt or are feeling the same way I do. Some people have a different mental illness than I do, but our struggles and pain are all the same. I am a strong and avid supporter of professional health, but a big part of my growth and understanding of what I was going through was engaging and making connections with people who were so much like me. I am no longer afraid to let people know I am not okay when asked how I am doing. I love being me at all times through the highs and the lows. The more I accept who I am and all of the things happening to me, the better I understand why my life is so precious and beautiful. I no longer let social media affect who I am. Like I tell so many of my friends who live on their phones, “LET’S STAY ORIGINAL, WHILE THE WORLD IS BECOMING DIGITAL(quote by Lavon Davis @ Love On Life Foundation, Inc).” our lives may not be picture perfect, but as long as you stay true to who you are, even your pain brings you purpose. So next time you feel down and not yourself, remember it’s ok not to be ok, but it’s not ok NOT to tell anyone. We are always here If you ever need to connect with someone like you.
